Hello dear Readers,
For this entry, I am going to further explain myself in my recent attempts to finish the pursuit(ELA)/active engagement(SS) portion of my MDG project. Well, the pursuit/active engagement part is a way that teachers let students be part of their local community. They do this through awareness campaigns such as fundraising activities and voluntary commitments. Other methods are accepted as long as you are following the main objective. Which is to raise awareness on your particular issue. A couple of my classmates took time off to go to their former school and present the school's student body. It was daunting (in my opinion anyways) but it got the objective done and now they're finished the pursuit/active engagement part. It could be as simple as that as long as you stay within the objective.
Active Engagement (Social Studies Aspect)
My active engagement for my country (South Africa) has and is experiencing continuous progress. For example, I met with a particular teacher regarding my country. I consider this an active engagement because I have put in the effort to research (not just looking it up in the internet) the subject with a person who had first hand experience on the issue. I then shared that knowledge to my classmates, which I guess counts for raising awareness. Another milestone occurred when my SS teacher allowed to temporarily join a school Club to help in my active engagement. She gave me the task to make a poster regarding the importance of malaria nets for a fundraiser at school. I finished it and I mentally rewarded myself for another stride in accomplishing this project. She also recommended that I do a "Dare/s" to raise money for HIV/AIDS. It is basically a dare that people give me and if I take the challenge and complete it, they give me money to donate to my cause. My teacher raised $1000 because someone dared her to go bungee jumping. So I took the bait and informed my family members. My Dad then quickly gave me a Dare. He said that each day I do not log on Facebook, he would give me $1. Uhmmm....I took the challenge hesitantly because I am a Facebook-oholic. The dare starts on Monday and it is all worth it because it is for good cause.
Pursuit (English Aspect)
Well, well, well. This is embarrassing. When I was writing the above paragraph, I felt accomplished and validated but now......Yes, I still haven't read the book, 28. It is sad but I think this is because I read the "Kite Runner" earlier in the semester and that effort was null and voided. I promise and if time permits, I would give you an update on the book when I have read it. Moving on to more cheery updates, our combined group has set aside time this week to get a head-start (and maybe finish) the awareness video we are doing. We are going to send it to our former school to reach a more broader audience and I will start asking other teachers at our current school so that they can show it to their classes. My first attempt of this project might have failed (volunteering at the local AIDS center) but now my passion is re-ignited.
40 Days Until Christmas XDD
