MDG Update.....

Hello dear Readers,

This week, I finally accomplished my pursuit/active engagement for my MDG project. After three days of diligent  and relentless work, my groupmates completed our awareness video and presented it to our former school. It was utterly thrilling and daunting at the same time. I'm not a very good orator and English is definitely not my first language. So it was quite challenging but the Cause is much greater than some shortcoming of mine. As I have said previously, I have no one personal experience of losing someone from the cold, merciless grasps of HIV/AIDS. But far too many people have. This one of the greatest (I think) reason why I like the MDG project. It empowers a student to become morally obligated about the current issues that face us as a human civilization.

In terms of HIV/AIDS, it matters not your age, gender, sexual preference or color. You can be infected! This should be enough for all of us to take action, to move forward and combat HIV/AIDS head on. I was absolutely delighted when in recent news, the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Benedict the XVI said that condoms were acceptable to prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS. I mean coming from the boss of a very conservative 1-billion institution and religion is key (for me anyways). This is what we need to do, accept the facts, accept the truth basically and come to together to solve the problem. Medicines are available, we just need to make it accessible and affordable not just for the poverty-stricken but for everyone and anyone.

I know I went into a small tirade but I guess this is what I felt during the presentations. That I, a person, can spread the word and awareness for a cause like HIV/AIDS. I felt somehow, somewhere in the deep caverns of my soul a sense of validation and pro-activeness. I loved every minute. I hope that I could do it again and present to a different audience. Anyways, if you have forgotten (because I didn't) I will start my dare tomorrow, 22 November 2010. I am to stay away from Facebook like the plague for a good cause which is to try and raise  $50 and donate it to the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Wish me great luck and strength, dear Reader because I will need alooooot of it.
