One of the projects in our Social Studies class is that we had to choose a book that was appropriate to this year's curriculum: Globalization. While doing another assignment in the library, the teacher asked us to browse preselected books that fits the category. I finished a good chunk of the assignment (which took a while) before I got up and had a chance to see the selection. As I was walking to the librarian's desk, my pessimistic nature kicked in and thought that the good books were already taken. But boy was I completely wrong. I saw it, clad in its sepia-colored covers. Kite Runner.
I tried to watch the movie before but it wasn't meant to be. I only watched a couple seconds (maybe more) and then went looking for a better show/movie on television. I think that's the main reason why I chose the book: I haven't finish watching its motion picture counterpart. The title also detracted me from the reading the book or watching the film. So I'm assuming it's a person running kites? I thought to myself. That's the ignorant, shallow and feeble-minded me talking.
I was academically obligated to take a book, so I took it. Yet somehow, somewhere, in a tiny compartment of my mind, I wanted to know what story Khaleed Hosseini wanted to tell, even though I was still a tad bit hesitant. I wouldn't be disappointed. No. Not at all.
