Hello Dear Readers,
This week was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was a week of laziness and it was a week of studiousness. Tests were given (and retaken), projects were started and tears were ultimately shed. But what school week isn't. I have realized this week during my 2 hours of contemplation, that I am smart. Not the Math or 100% on test smart (do I smell a hint of jealousy?) but the smart that knows that he is not smart. A tad bit paradoxical but hey I'm feeling that I'm somewhat of an intellectual. Hahaha, can you feel the oh so vague yet present narcissistic tone in me. I'm getting off track there but that's what a liter of Coffee Frap. can do your system. I have learned the history of slavery this week and the following is my 2 cents.
Cruel, inhumane and as you guess, evil are the words that describe slavery. People treated other people as property, as something that is disposable. A breathing human that has emotions. Subjected to the whims and orders of a person who thinks that he/she is better for whatever reason. It is evil. Just plain evil. The tremendous amount of pain and torture that slaves experienced in those times made me realize the great capacity that humans can do if they are in the wrong. Ignorance is bliss and such was the case. They were happy to close their eyes and stick their heads in the sand. But they didn't realize the sense of brotherhood and care that it is to transcend race. That the meaning of neighbor is not just the person living next to you but also the people who are different from you. Though it has been a slow process, we are on our way to atonement.
(Ask yourself, can you endure such torment? If you can't why let others.)
Slavery is still an issue though it has become much more hidden and if not bigger than before. Poor people are promised with employment in other countries but are subsequently abused physically, sexually and emotionally. They are forced to do things that are vile and monstrous to the mind of a normal person. And we normal people have to do the best of what we can do and beyond to stop this evil. We cannot let anyone suffer or go through this hellish experience. We have to set aside our political ideologies and personal difference and recognize that the slavery in any form is punishable to the fullest extent of the law and justice must be amply served. We have to save our fellow human beings because if we don't our humanity is threatened.

If there breathe on earth a slave,
Are ye truly free and brave?
If ye do not feel the chain,
When it works a brother's pain,
Are ye not base slaves indeed,
Slaves unworthy to be freed?
Are ye truly free and brave?
If ye do not feel the chain,
When it works a brother's pain,
Are ye not base slaves indeed,
Slaves unworthy to be freed?
