As I mentioned before there a major part of this blog is something called MDGs. I just mindlessly typed and explained this aspect without really delving too much into it. Prior to our teachers introducing us to the MDG's, I have never heard anything quite like it. It was put forth by the UN in 2000 and signed by 198 countries with the intent to better the lives of people everywhere. They wanted to achieve this eight primary goals by the year 2015. I believe this is preposterous and simply a joke. I know that my ELA and Social Studies teachers will be up in arms defending the MDG but everyone is entitled to their own opinion even though it seems very ignorant. The time table is really the thing that puts me off. If we look at history, our history as a people residing in this Earth, we would find that we do things very slowly. We move a step forward then take two steps back. I wish that they would have taken this into further consideration.
(Just a review)
If the UN and its signatory countries wanted to achieve this time line and goals, why then didn't I know of this before? Why aren't governments doing more in terms of raising awareness and promoting this idea to its people? To me the idea is absolutely brilliant but it gets lost in translation or rather gets lost in bureaucratic debacles. It's like communism, its sounds great but when put into practice...hehehe...it's a whole new ballgame. If we are really committed to the betterment of our fellow human beings then why do most people say "Whatchu talking about", when asked about the MDGs. Why is it that when developing countries need loans (through the World Bank, IMF, WTO and such) to help their people, the countries are forced to loosen their economic policies. I know this is getting a little side tracked but this reality; this is what happens in backroom deals.
I don't want to sound off as harsh critic of the MDGs and especially as a pompous, arrogant brat. I'm not. I believe in the power of one because we are here because it only needed one person to change the course of history. Because if it isn't for the persons that labored and toiled for the sake of others, I wouldn't be able to be here writing to you guys. If it isn't for those people, then we wouldn't have taken those steps for humanity. It only takes one to change the mind of others, it only takes one to tell others and it only takes one to help contribute to the bigger picture. Only one. Now that I have been informed, I have to give it my all and very best. And know that you know something about the MDGs, I do hope that you would try even in doubt.
I am only one,
but I am one.
I cannot do everything but I can do something.
What I can do,
I ought to do.
And with the Grace of God, I will do it.
